I coordinate donations at Sycamore Refugee Centre in Alcalá de Henares. Every year around this time we hear from families who have nothing warm for their children, and this year demand has more than doubled. We're collecting clean, gently used or new coats, boots, hats, gloves and scarves in sizes 4-12. If you're in Alcalá de Henares, we can arrange a pick-up or you can drop things at Sycamore Refugee Centre on Wednesday between 10am and 3pm. If you're elsewhere, you may offer to sponsor a coat through a local shop - message in the comments and we can coordinate. Items go to families directly and the rest to the Sycamore Refugee Centre clothing bank, which is open to everyone. Whatever you can give, even just sharing this page, means a lot.

  • Shared it with a few friends. I told my book club about it and three of them are giving too. Greetings from Haifa.

    • So sorry you're going through this. Shared it with a few friends. After 25 years in public service I know how hard it's to ask for anything. Thinking of Alcalá de Henares.

Best of luck, Marta. I've been in a tough spot myself and it does get easier. I'm in construction myself and wanted you to know we're cheering for you. All the best.

so sorry you're going through this. It takes guts to ask. Well done. We lost years of savings to something like this so I get it

          • Wishing you the best, Marta. Hope you get there. My husband and I read this together.

            • Thanks for sharing this. Rent stress is the worst. Hope this helps. Read this on the bus and kept thinking about it all day. Love from São Paulo
