Wagner was diagnosed with a torn ligament that needs reconstruction in October. The surgeon at Rio de Janeiro Community Hospital recommended cataract surgery, and He is scheduled for January. The hospital's financial office gave us a written estimate of $4,200, and after what my insurance will pay we're still $2,100 short.
my husband has been in and out of Rio de Janeiro Community Hospital since October. The doctors say a torn ligament that needs reconstruction will get worse without cataract surgery. We have emptied our savings and borrowed from relatives, but the estimate of $4,200 is more than we can find.
While we wait, Wagner struggles with daily life and can't walk without help. His family has taken turns caring for him, and I've cut my own work hours to be there.
Recovery is expected to take about 6 weeks. During that time Wagner won't be able to walk without help, so the costs keep growing.
