Volunteers wanted: Willem's yard after the storm

Willem, 81, can no longer manage the yard after a storm; we're looking for helpers with chainsaws and rakes.

I'm 81 and I have lived in this house in Johannesburg for 33 years. After the storm in June, two large branches and a fallen fence have blocked the back door and the garden path. I can no longer manage them myself because of my hip replacement. The council has told me it will be ten weeks before they can send someone. I'd feel much safer if it were cleared sooner. Help needed: someone with a chainsaw, plus a few people with rakes and gloves. I'll provide tea, sandwiches and the green waste bags. A few hours will do. Whatever you can give, even just sharing this page, means a lot.

  • Stay strong, Willem. Gave what I could, wish it was more. Put this on a community board in Essen this morning. Thinking of Johannesburg.

    • Hope things get better soon. Wishing Willem a smooth procedure and a full recovery. We had a similar scare last year, I know what it feels like. Take care

      • Hope it all works out, Willem. Reading this made my day a bit heavier but I'm glad I did. Wish I lived closer to Sherbrooke so I could bring a meal

        • I hope things turn around soon. After 19 years in farming I know how hard it's to ask for anything. Love from Kochi
