Volunteer drivers wanted: Lucas's dialysis appointments

A rota of drivers to the Southampton Kidney Centre would keep Lucas on treatment. Even one trip a week helps.

Lucas has been on dialysis for 4 years and until recently drove to the Southampton Kidney Centre alone. After an eyesight problem, Lucas can no longer drive. Taxis cost more than the family can pay three times a week. We're building a rota of volunteer drivers. Each session is 3 hours, including the trip there and back; most volunteers take one regular day. The journey is about 29 km each way. Lucas is cheerful company. You'd need a car in good condition and a clean driving record. We'll cover your fuel costs, and the family will send you home with homemade food. Please say which day works for you in the comments. If you can't give, please share this page. It does reach people.

  • hang in there. Reading this made my day a bit heavier but I'm glad I did. It's not much but it's yours. All the best.

    • Wishing you the best, Jocelyn. Reading this made my day a bit heavier but I'm glad I did. My daughter saw me on my phone and now she wants to give her pocket money.
