Two weekends of roof repair for Lilian, a retired bus driver in Nairobi

Could you spare one long weekend to help repair a leaking roof in Nairobi?

I'm a retired bus driver living in Nairobi. During the last storm water started coming through the ceiling in 2 places, and the bathroom is no longer usable. A roofer quoted $350, which isn't something I can pay. The good news: a local hardware store has donated the tiles and battens. What I don't have is people to do the work. I'm looking for 4-6 people who can help over one long weekend. Experience helps, but it isn't essential - I'll have a licensed roofer supervising for safety. All you need is to be comfortable with heights or willing to help from the ground. I'll provide lunch, water and lots of thanks. The work will be done on the ground and roof with proper harnesses. If you can only help for a few hours, that's welcome too. I never thought I'd be the one asking, and I'm grateful for every bit of support.

  • you're not alone. Gave what I could, wish it was more. Put this on a community board in Adama this morning

    • Praying for you. I hope your landlord gives you a bit more time while this comes together. We lost years of savings to something like this so I get it. All the best

      • You're not alone. Gave what I could, wish it was more. My neighbor in Yonkers donated after I showed her your page. Blessings.

        • Thinking of you and your family, Lilian. Looking forward to the next update. Don't lose heart. A few weeks ago I was in a hole too and it changed faster than I expected. Love from São Paulo.
