The Unity vacant lot needs a community garden - Achieng's neighborhood project
Volunteers in Nairobi are raising $350 for a community garden at the Unity vacant lot.
🇰🇪 Kenya1,827 views
For eight years the neighborhood has asked for a community garden. This year a group of 18 volunteers, including local mothers, decided to stop waiting. The council has given permission for the Unity vacant lot, but no funding.
We have received donated volunteer hours worth about $160, and the remaining cost is $350.
It will serve about 171 people, including school children and their families. We'll hold a build day in May and everyone is invited.
We're a small team, and every dollar will be spent in the open - I'll post receipts and progress photos.
All purchases will be made by two volunteers and logged publicly. Surplus funds will go to maintenance.
Where the $350 goes:
• Tools hire and delivery: $60
• Safety equipment and signage: $65
• Materials: $225
Every share and every dollar helps.

Thinking of you, Achieng. More neighborhoods should do this. All the best
Wishing you the best. It takes guts to ask. Well done. My neighbor in Eindhoven donated after I showed her your page. Blessings.
Hope things get better soon. Hope the build day goes well, wish I lived closer. Thinking of Nairobi.
Good luck. Great idea, hope you get there. Sent it to 17 people at work.
Sending good thoughts, Achieng. Shared this with my family
