Leicester
My family left Yemen 13 months ago after our home was destroyed. We spent time in a camp before we were resettled in Leicester. We're a family of six and we're safe, but we arrived with very little. Our resettlement agency has provided 4 months of rent, and that support ends in May. I was an engineer in Yemen, and I'm studying the language every evening. Our daughter and son have started school and are doing well. We want nothing more than to be self-sufficient. This fund will help us through the first six months. Funds are managed by the Leicester Welcome Table charity, a registered organization, which pays the landlord and suppliers on the family's behalf. Where the $4,150 goes: • Rent deposit and first month: $1,550 • Beds, table and basic furniture: $1,200 • Winter clothing and school supplies: $720 • Language classes and bus passes: $490 • Phone and internet for school and job search: $190 I never thought I'd be the one asking, and I'm grateful for every bit of support. - Joseph

Updates from Joseph

  1. Update from Leicester: we've booked the dates and paid the deposit. We're at 31% of the goal. Thank you for believing in us.

  2. Good news. Because of your gifts ($737 in total) we've booked the dates and paid the deposit. Still a way to go but it feels less lonely.

  3. Small update. $203 so far, the plan for phone and internet for school and job search is now scheduled.
