For five years the neighborhood has asked for a free library and reading room. This year a group of 12 volunteers, including two retired carpenters, decided to stop waiting. The council has given permission for the old Lotus bus depot, but no funding.
We have received donated volunteer hours worth about $330, and the remaining cost is $1,200.
It will serve about 574 people, including children, seniors and people with disabilities. We'll hold a build day in November and everyone is invited.
We're a small team, and every dollar will be spent in the open - I'll post receipts and progress photos.
All purchases will be made by two volunteers and logged publicly. Surplus funds will go to maintenance.
Where the $1,200 goes:
• Materials: $860
• Permits and inspections: $75
• Safety equipment and signage: $75
• Tools hire and delivery: $190
Even a small gift gets used right away and I'll thank you myself.

Updates from Sandra
Update from Santos: I made the first payment toward materials. We're at 5% of the goal. Thank you for believing in us.
Good news. Because of your gifts ($87 in total) I made the first payment toward materials. Still a way to go but it feels less lonely.
Small update. $142 so far, I met with the suppliers and confirmed the amounts.
