For twelve years the neighborhood has asked for a playground. This year a group of 26 volunteers, including the parish youth group, decided to stop waiting. The council has given permission for the Liberty vacant lot, but no funding. We have received donated volunteer hours worth about $890, and the remaining cost is $2,300. It will serve about 470 people, including school children and their families. We'll hold a build day in September and everyone is invited. We're a small team, and every dollar will be spent in the open - I'll post receipts and progress photos. Funds are spent only on materials, permits and safety equipment; all labor is volunteered. Where the $2,300 goes: • Permits and inspections: $90 • Materials: $2,000 • Tools hire and delivery: $210 I'll pay this kindness forward the moment I'm able to.

  • Take care, Yuto. Projects like this are what make a place worth living in. I went through something like this 7 years ago and strangers helped me out. Love from Kampala.

    • I hope things turn around soon. I hope September is when things finally get easier. All the best.

      • Sending strength. Reading this made my day a bit heavier but I'm glad I did. My husband and I read this together. Take care.

        • wishing you the best. Everyone deserves a bit of help sometimes. I went through something like this 8 years ago and strangers helped me out.

          • So sorry you're going through this. Your post was clear and honest. Wish I lived closer to Richards Bay so I could bring a meal. God bless.

            • Hope things get better soon. I've been in a tough spot myself and it does get easier. Don't lose heart. A few weeks ago I was in a hole too and it changed faster than I expected. Take care.
