For three years the neighborhood has asked for a community garden. This year a group of 21 volunteers, including the parish youth group, decided to stop waiting. The council has given permission for the Freedom health centre yard, but no funding. We have received donated soil and plants, and the remaining cost is $1,000. It will serve about 308 people, including school children and their families. We'll hold a build day in November and everyone is invited. We're a small team, and every dollar will be spent in the open - I'll post receipts and progress photos. Funds are spent only on materials, permits and safety equipment; all labor is volunteered. Where the $1,000 goes: • Materials: $550 • Permits and inspections: $125 • Safety equipment and signage: $150 • Tools hire and delivery: $175 Even a small gift gets used right away and I'll thank you myself.
