For ten years the neighborhood has asked for a sensory garden for children with autism. This year a group of 20 volunteers, including the neighborhood football club, decided to stop waiting. The council has given permission for the Acacia community hall, but no funding. We have received donated volunteer hours worth about $180, and the remaining cost is $400. It will serve about 382 people, including elderly neighbors living alone. We'll hold a build day in September and everyone is invited. We're a small team, and every dollar will be spent in the open - I'll post receipts and progress photos. Funds are spent only on materials, permits and safety equipment; all labor is volunteered. Where the $400 goes: • Materials: $290 • Permits and inspections: $15 • Safety equipment and signage: $30 • Tools hire and delivery: $65 I hope life is good to you.

  • I've been in a tough spot myself and it does get easier. After 16 years in construction I know how hard it's to ask for anything.
