Nicolás was diagnosed with a hernia that has become strangulated in November. The surgeon at Buenos Aires Orthopedic Institute recommended cataract surgery, and He is scheduled for February. The hospital's financial office gave us a written estimate of $2,300, and after what my employer's plan will pay we're still $1,600 short.
my brother has been in and out of Buenos Aires Orthopedic Institute since November. The doctors say a hernia that has become strangulated will get worse without cataract surgery. We have emptied our savings and borrowed from relatives, but the estimate of $2,300 is more than we can find.
While we wait, Nicolás struggles with daily life and can't drive. His family has taken turns caring for him, and I've cut my own work hours to be there.
The recovery period is expected to take about 7 weeks. During that time Nicolás won't be able to drive, so the costs keep growing.
