Gregory was diagnosed with a hernia that has become strangulated in July. The surgeon at Wellington Orthopedic Institute recommended valve repair surgery, and He is scheduled for September. The hospital's financial office gave us a written estimate of $7,750, and after what my insurance will pay we're still $4,600 short. my brother has been in and out of Wellington Orthopedic Institute since July. The doctors say a hernia that has become strangulated will get worse without valve repair surgery. We have emptied our savings and borrowed from relatives, but the estimate of $7,750 is more than we can find. While we wait, Gregory struggles with daily life and can't climb stairs. His family has taken turns caring for him, and I've cut my own work hours to be there. Rehabilitation is expected to take about 8 weeks. During that time Gregory won't be able to climb stairs, so the costs keep growing. I'll pay the hospital and pharmacy directly and post every receipt in the updates section. Where the $4,600 goes: • Pre-operative tests and imaging: $240 • Post-operative medication: $380 • Surgeon and anesthesia fees: $1,850 • Physiotherapy sessions: $250 • Hospital stay (5 nights): $1,880 Thanks for being kind about this.
