Fernando was diagnosed with an aortic valve defect in February. The surgeon at San Fernando Regional Medical Center recommended ACL reconstruction, and He is scheduled for May. The hospital's financial office gave us a written estimate of $2,000, and after what my insurance will pay we're still $1,400 short. my brother has been in and out of San Fernando Regional Medical Center since February. The doctors say an aortic valve defect will get worse without ACL reconstruction. We have emptied our savings and borrowed from relatives, but the estimate of $2,000 is more than we can find. While we wait, Fernando struggles with daily life and can't work a full shift. His family has taken turns caring for him, and I've cut my own work hours to be there. Rehabilitation is expected to take about 5 weeks. During that time Fernando won't be able to work a full shift, so the costs keep growing. I'll pay the hospital and pharmacy directly and post every receipt in the updates section. Where the $1,400 goes: • Surgeon and anesthesia fees: $740 • Hospital stay (3 nights): $420 • Pre-operative tests and imaging: $85 • Post-operative medication: $30 • Physiotherapy sessions: $55 • Travel and lodging for the family: $70 I'll keep this page updated with receipts as things happen. - Gemma

  • So sorry you're going through this, Gemma. Gave what I could, wish it was more. I'm in public service myself and wanted you to know we're cheering for you. God bless

    • Hope things get better soon. Hope you get there. My daughter saw me on my phone and now she wants to give her pocket money. Blessings.

      • Thinking of you, Gemma. Hope the treatment goes smoothly and recovery is quick. This is the second need I've supported on here and the first that made me cry. Greetings from Cape Coast.
