Stop the eviction: 2 months of rent for Owen's family in Oakland
A long illness left Owen short on rent for 2 months; help us stay in our home.
🇺🇸 California, United States1,205 views
After a sudden layoff at the warehouse, Owen fell 2 months behind on rent. Last Monday a notice to vacate was taped to the door, and the amount owed is $2,350.
The landlord was understanding for a while, but has now been clear: if the arrears aren't cleared by November, the family must leave.
There are a toddler and a baby at home. Moving would mean new schools, a new commute and no deposit to put down anywhere else.
Owen has started working weekend shifts, and is applying for help from local services, but nothing will arrive in time without the rest of the gap covered here.
The money will be paid directly to the landlord and I'll upload the receipt once it's done.
Where the $2,350 goes:
• Late fees and court costs: $410
• Rent arrears (2 months): $1,600
• Utilities in arrears: $340
