Start-up fund for Brooks: reopening a tailoring shop after a long illness and repossession

Brooks has run a tailoring shop for twelve years; a long illness and repossession destroyed the equipment, and $2,750 will put it back on its feet.

For twelve years I have run a tailoring shop in Toronto. In May, a long illness and repossession took three industrial sewing machines. I have no insurance, and the bank won't lend to me. Before that, my customers came every Monday, and I employed 3 people from the neighborhood. I have been out of business for 8 weeks. This business pays my children's school fees and rent. I have already started working from home in small ways, but I can't meet orders without proper equipment. Every contribution brings me closer to reopening, and I promise to post photos as I buy each item. Once I'm back on my feet I plan to hire back the people I had to let go. Where the $2,750 goes: • Replacing three industrial sewing machines: $1,400 • Initial stock: fabric and thread: $780 • Shop repairs and licensing: $220 • Working capital for the first month: $350 With deep gratitude, Brooks
