In June I was diagnosed with non-Hodgkin lymphoma. My oncology team at Berlin Regional Medical Center has planned 10 rounds of treatment, and the first starts in September. I was told to expect about 4 weeks away from work.
I never imagined I'd be writing something like this. I'm 37, I worked as a cleaner at a hospital until June, and I have been the main earner for my household.
Treatment is covered only in part. Medication that isn't on the approved list, transport to Berlin Regional Medical Center 5 times a week, and the income I have lost add up quickly.
My family is doing everything they can, but we've already sold what we could and are borrowing for groceries.
Funds will be used only for treatment, medication, transport to appointments and essential living costs during treatment.
Where the $7,900 goes:
• Household costs while unable to work: $1,350
• Transport to Berlin Regional Medical Center: $750
• Chemotherapy and medication not covered: $4,600
• Scans and lab work: $1,200
