Standing with Mercy: kidney cancer treatment costs
4 rounds of treatment are planned at Asaba University Hospital; we're asking for help with the costs insurance doesn't cover.
🇳🇬 Nigeria526 views
Mercy was diagnosed with kidney cancer in March. The oncology team at Asaba University Hospital has planned 4 rounds of treatment, starting in July. She will be away from work for about 8 weeks.
Mercy is 45, worked as a bank teller until March, and has always been the one who looks after everyone else. Now it's our turn to look after her.
Treatment is covered only in part. Medication that isn't on the approved list, trips to Asaba University Hospital 4 times a week, and the income the family has lost add up quickly.
We've already sold what we could and have begun borrowing for groceries. Every kindness from you takes weight off her shoulders.
Funds will be used only for treatment, medication, transport to appointments and essential living costs during treatment.
Where the $1,700 goes:
• Chemotherapy and medication not covered: $880
• Scans and lab work: $230
• Transport to Asaba University Hospital: $140
• Nutrition and supplements prescribed by the care team: $70
• Household costs while unable to work: $380
