Standing with Lucy: stomach cancer treatment costs
Lucy is facing stomach cancer and the cost of treatment, travel and care at home is far beyond what the family can cover.

Lucy was diagnosed with stomach cancer in May. The oncology team at the Auckland Oncology Institute has planned 12 rounds of treatment, starting in July. She will be away from work for about 12 weeks.
Lucy is 55, worked as a hairdresser until May, and has always been the one who looks after everyone else. Now it's our turn to look after her.
Treatment is covered only in part. Medication that isn't on the approved list, trips to the Auckland Oncology Institute 5 times a week, and the income the family has lost add up quickly.
We've already sold what we could and have begun borrowing for groceries. Every kindness from you takes weight off her shoulders.
Funds will be used only for treatment, medication, transport to appointments and essential living costs during treatment.
Where the $6,100 goes:
• Household costs while unable to work: $1,350
• Transport to the Auckland Oncology Institute: $360
• Chemotherapy and medication not covered: $4,390
