Chicago
For fifteen years I have run a tailoring shop in Chicago. In May, floodwater took three industrial sewing machines. I have no insurance, and the bank won't lend to me. Before that, my customers came every Friday, and I employed 2 people from the neighborhood. I have been out of business for 12 weeks. This business pays my children's school fees and rent. I have already started working from home in small ways, but I can't meet orders without proper equipment. Every contribution brings me closer to reopening, and I promise to post photos as I buy each item. I'll buy equipment from local suppliers and post photos and receipts as I go. Where the $4,800 goes: • Initial stock: fabric and thread: $460 • Working capital for the first month: $700 • Replacing three industrial sewing machines: $3,640 Even a small gift gets used right away and I'll thank you myself.

The list at the bottom is the whole picture. initial stock: fabric and thread is the biggest at $460.

    • Hope things get better soon. Everyone deserves a bit of help sometimes. Don't lose heart. A few weeks ago I was in a hole too and it changed faster than I expected. Thinking of Chicago.

      • Good luck, Santiago. It takes guts to ask. Well done.

Hang in there, Santiago. I've been in a tough spot myself and it does get easier. I told my book club about it and three of them are giving too. Take care
