Roofing help wanted: Maina's home in Dar es Salaam
The roof at Maina's home is failing; materials are donated and we need hands.
🇹🇿 Dar es Salaam, Dar es Salaam, Tanzania938 views
I'm a widowed grandmother living in Dar es Salaam. During the last storm water started coming through the ceiling in 2 places, and the kids' bedroom is no longer usable. A roofer quoted $420, which isn't something I can pay.
The good news: a local hardware store has donated the roofing sheets and nails. What I don't have is people to do the work. I'm looking for 4-6 people who can help over two Saturdays.
Experience helps, but it isn't essential - I'll have a licensed roofer supervising for safety. All you need is work boots and a hat. I'll provide lunch, water and lots of thanks.
The work will be done on the ground and roof with proper harnesses. If you can only help for a few hours, that's welcome too.
I never thought I'd be the one asking, and I'm grateful for every bit of support.

your post was clear and honest. This is the second need I've supported on here and the first that made me cry. Love from Houston!

thanks for sharing this, Maina. It takes guts to ask. Well done. Wish I lived closer to Liverpool so I could bring a meal.

Thinking of you. Looking forward to the next update. My daughter saw me on my phone and now she wants to give her pocket money.
