The roof at Gerald's home is failing; materials are donated and we need hands.

I'm a night-shift nurse living in Birmingham. During the last storm water started coming through the ceiling in 4 places, and the living room is no longer usable. A roofer quoted $2,900, which isn't something I can pay. The good news: a local hardware store has donated the roofing sheets and nails. What I don't have is people to do the work. I'm looking for a small crew who can help over three weekday mornings. Experience helps, but it isn't essential - I'll have a licensed roofer supervising for safety. All you need is to be comfortable with heights or willing to help from the ground. I'll provide lunch, water and lots of thanks. The work will be done on the ground and roof with proper harnesses. If you can only help for a few hours, that's welcome too. Glad we found this place.

  • Keep going. Shared it with a few friends. My husband and I read this together

    • I was in a similar spot a few years ago and it did get better. After 6 years in public service I know how hard it's to ask for anything.

      • Wishing you the best, Gerald. I hope your landlord gives you a bit more time while this comes together. Don't lose heart. A few weeks ago I was in a hole too and it changed faster than I expected. Take care.

        • so sorry you're going through this, Gerald. This could happen to any of us. Read this on the bus and kept thinking about it all day.

          • Wishing you peace. Everyone deserves a bit of help sometimes. Don't be hard on yourself for asking. Blessings.
