Roofing help wanted: Emeka's home in Lagos

Could you spare three weekday mornings to help repair a leaking roof in Lagos?

I'm a single mother of three living in Lagos. During the last storm water started coming through the ceiling in 2 places, and the bathroom is no longer usable. A roofer quoted $460, which isn't something I can pay. The good news: a local hardware store has donated the roofing sheets and nails. What I don't have is people to do the work. I'm looking for three or four volunteers who can help over three weekday mornings. Experience helps, but it isn't essential - I'll have a licensed roofer supervising for safety. All you need is work boots and a hat. I'll provide lunch, water and lots of thanks. The work will be done on the ground and roof with proper harnesses. If you can only help for a few hours, that's welcome too. Whatever you can give, even just sharing this page, means a lot.

  • thanks for sharing this. Your post was clear and honest. My neighbor had a similar thing happen so this one hit home. God bless.

    • I was in a similar spot a few years ago and it did get better. I hope August is when things finally get easier. Blessings!

      • Stay strong, Emeka. Hope this works out for you. I told my book club about it and three of them are giving too. Take care.

        • So sorry you're going through this, Emeka. Shared it with a few friends. This is the second need I've supported on here and the first that made me cry. God bless.

          • Hope it all works out, Emeka. Reading this made my day a bit heavier but I'm glad I did. I went through something like this 9 years ago and strangers helped me out. Take care.
