Ricardo was diagnosed with stomach cancer in July. The oncology team at the São Paulo Oncology Institute has planned 8 rounds of treatment, starting in October. He will be away from work for about 6 weeks. Ricardo is 53, worked as a bus conductor until July, and has always been the one who looks after everyone else. Now it's our turn to look after him. Treatment is covered only in part. Medication that isn't on the approved list, trips to the São Paulo Oncology Institute 2 times a week, and the income the family has lost add up quickly. We've already sold what we could and have begun borrowing for groceries. Every kindness from you takes weight off his shoulders. Funds will be used only for treatment, medication, transport to appointments and essential living costs during treatment. Where the $2,700 goes: • Chemotherapy and medication not covered: $1,700 • Scans and lab work: $310 • Transport to the São Paulo Oncology Institute: $320 • Nutrition and supplements prescribed by the care team: $105 • Household costs while unable to work: $265 Please ask me anything in the questions section.
