Restoring the Pioneer hillside: a volunteer-led project in Ikeja
A neighborhood-led restoration of the Pioneer hillside needs $210 for saplings and equipment.
🇳🇬 Nigeria1,118 views
The Pioneer hillside has been used as an informal dump for years. This August, 96 neighbors turned up for a first cleanup, filling 80 bags in a single morning. Now we want to restore it for good.
We have a plan agreed with the local forestry office, including native species selected by a local botanist.
The area floods more each year, and fish have returned for the first time in a decade after our first cleanup. Restoring it will protect homes and bring back shade.
All the labor is volunteered. We just need materials.
We'll post planting day photos and a count of every sapling planted.
Where the $210 goes:
• Tools and protective gear: $110
• Waste removal and skip hire: $95
• Signage and educational materials: $5
I'll pay this kindness forward the moment I'm able to.
Updates from Ikenna
Update from Ikeja: I made the first payment toward waste removal and skip hire. We're at 40% of the goal. Thank you for believing in us.
Thank you all. We're at 35% now ($74). I'm honestly stunned. the plan for waste removal and skip hire is now scheduled.
