Restoring the Liberty riverbank: a volunteer-led project in Saint Petersburg
A neighborhood-led restoration of the Liberty riverbank needs $450 for saplings and equipment.
🇷🇺 Saint Petersburg, Saint Petersburg, Russia1,426 views
The Liberty riverbank has been used as an informal dump for years. This September, 74 neighbors turned up for a first cleanup, filling 115 bags in a single morning. Now we want to restore it for good.
We have a plan agreed with the district council, including native species selected by a local botanist.
The area floods more each year, and fish have returned for the first time in a decade after our first cleanup. Restoring it will protect homes and bring back shade.
All the labor is volunteered. We just need materials.
We'll post planting day photos and a count of every sapling planted.
Where the $450 goes:
• Native saplings and stakes: $280
• Signage and educational materials: $45
• Tools and protective gear: $125
With deep gratitude,
Yulia

Good news. Because of your gifts ($366 in total) I made the first payment toward native saplings and stakes. Still a way to go but it feels less lonely.
Wanted to say thank you properly. 81% funded and we've booked the dates and paid the deposit.

Take care, Yulia. Looking forward to the next update. After 20 years in retail I know how hard it's to ask for anything.
