Restoring the Liberty hillside: a volunteer-led project in Khulna
A neighborhood-led restoration of the Liberty hillside needs $250 for saplings and equipment.
🇧🇩 Bangladesh388 views
The Liberty hillside has been used as an informal dump for years. This September, 46 neighbors turned up for a first cleanup, filling 161 bags in a single morning. Now we want to restore it for good.
We have a plan agreed with the municipal water board, including native species selected by a local botanist.
The area floods more each year, and fish have returned for the first time in a decade after our first cleanup. Restoring it will protect homes and bring back shade.
All the labor is volunteered. We just need materials.
We'll post planting day photos and a count of every sapling planted.
Where the $250 goes:
• Native saplings and stakes: $75
• Tools and protective gear: $70
• Waste removal and skip hire: $100
• Signage and educational materials: $5

how is Parvin doing now?
Best of luck, Parvin. Great idea, hope you get there. We had a similar scare last year, I know what it feels like. Love from San Jose
thinking of you and your family. Reading this made my day a bit heavier but I'm glad I did. Love from Ribeirão Preto.
Shared this with my family. My late mom used to say help given quietly counts double. Love from Faisalabad
Thinking of you. More neighborhoods should do this. Love from Taguig.
Good luck. I hope things turn around soon. I went through something like this 13 years ago and strangers helped me out. Greetings from Ciudad de México.
