Restoring the Liberty canal: a volunteer-led project in Dhaka
Volunteers are restoring the Liberty canal in Dhaka; $300 covers saplings, tools and waste removal.

The Liberty canal has been used as an informal dump for years. This August, 84 neighbors turned up for a first cleanup, filling 180 bags in a single morning. Now we want to restore it for good.
We have a plan agreed with the local forestry office, including native species selected by a local botanist.
The area floods more each year, and fish have returned for the first time in a decade after our first cleanup. Restoring it will protect homes and bring back shade.
All the labor is volunteered. We just need materials.
Funds buy saplings, gloves, bags, hire of a skip, and signage.
Where the $300 goes:
• Native saplings and stakes: $190
• Tools and protective gear: $50
• Waste removal and skip hire: $30
• Signage and educational materials: $30
Thank you so much.

Sending strength, Nipa. Gave what I could, wish it was more. God bless.
Keep going, Nipa. Shared this with my family. We're a small family in Enugu but we're thinking of you. Love from Enugu
Best of luck, Nipa. Shared it with a few friends. I'm in nursing myself and wanted you to know we're cheering for you. Take care
More neighborhoods should do this. Thinking of Dhaka.
Thinking of you and your family, Nipa. Projects like this are what make a place worth living in. It's not much but it's yours.
