Restoring the Freedom canal: a volunteer-led project in Tamale
Volunteers are restoring the Freedom canal in Tamale; $300 covers saplings, tools and waste removal.
🇬🇭 Northern, Ghana659 views
The Freedom canal has been used as an informal dump for years. This July, 120 neighbors turned up for a first cleanup, filling 186 bags in a single morning. Now we want to restore it for good.
We have a plan agreed with the city parks department, including native species selected by a local botanist.
The area floods more each year, and fish have returned for the first time in a decade after our first cleanup. Restoring it will protect homes and bring back shade.
All the labor is volunteered. We just need materials.
Funds buy saplings, gloves, bags, hire of a skip, and signage.
Where the $300 goes:
• Tools and protective gear: $60
• Signage and educational materials: $25
• Native saplings and stakes: $215
I'll pay this kindness forward the moment I'm able to.

is there a list of costs somewhere? Just curious how it adds up for Prince
Everything on the list is an amount I've been quoted or invoiced. tools and protective gear comes first ($60) and I'll update the page as each thing gets paid. Happy to explain more.
take care. Hope this works out for you. It's not much but it's yours. Greetings from Pokhara
