Restoring the Cedar riverbank: a volunteer-led project in Istanbul
Help us clean and replant the Cedar riverbank before the September planting window closes.
🇹🇷 Türkiye452 views
The Cedar riverbank has been used as an informal dump for years. This June, 111 neighbors turned up for a first cleanup, filling 199 bags in a single morning. Now we want to restore it for good.
We have a plan agreed with the district council, including native species selected by a local botanist.
The area floods more each year, and fish have returned for the first time in a decade after our first cleanup. Restoring it will protect homes and bring back shade.
All the labor is volunteered. We just need materials.
Funds buy saplings, gloves, bags, hire of a skip, and signage.
Where the $150 goes:
• Signage and educational materials: $20
• Waste removal and skip hire: $75
• Tools and protective gear: $55
Glad we found this place.

Is there a list of costs somewhere? Just curious how it adds up for Volkan.
Signage and educational materials is $20 of it. Everything else is listed in the story and nothing outside that list comes out of this page. I'll keep the page updated.
so sorry you're going through this, Volkan. Hope the build day goes well, wish I lived closer. Thinking of Istanbul!
Hope things get better soon, Volkan. Gave what I could, wish it was more. God bless.
Wishing you peace, Volkan. I hope things turn around soon. We're a small family in Dar es Salaam but we're thinking of you. All the best.
