Restoring the Cedar canal: a volunteer-led project in Ribeirão Preto
A neighborhood-led restoration of the Cedar canal needs $500 for saplings and equipment.
🇧🇷 Ribeirão Preto, São Paulo, Brazil642 views
The Cedar canal has been used as an informal dump for years. This August, 66 neighbors turned up for a first cleanup, filling 173 bags in a single morning. Now we want to restore it for good.
We have a plan agreed with the municipal water board, including native species selected by a local botanist.
The area floods more each year, and fish have returned for the first time in a decade after our first cleanup. Restoring it will protect homes and bring back shade.
All the labor is volunteered. We just need materials.
We'll post planting day photos and a count of every sapling planted.
Where the $500 goes:
• Tools and protective gear: $65
• Signage and educational materials: $45
• Native saplings and stakes: $390
Every share and every dollar helps.

Projects like this are what make a place worth living in. My brother had a similar thing happen so this one hit home. All the best.
Sending strength, Simone. Your post was clear and honest. Thinking of Ribeirão Preto
