Plant 880 native trees around the Freedom wetland in Berlin
A neighborhood-led restoration of the Freedom wetland needs $1,050 for saplings and equipment.
🇩🇪 Germany609 views
The Freedom wetland has been used as an informal dump for years. This March, 65 neighbors turned up for a first cleanup, filling 100 bags in a single morning. Now we want to restore it for good.
We have a plan agreed with the local forestry office, including native species selected by a local botanist.
The area floods more each year, and fish have returned for the first time in a decade after our first cleanup. Restoring it will protect homes and bring back shade.
All the labor is volunteered. We just need materials.
We'll post planting day photos and a count of every sapling planted.
Where the $1,050 goes:
• Waste removal and skip hire: $260
• Tools and protective gear: $620
• Signage and educational materials: $170
Every share and every dollar helps.

Is there a list of costs somewhere? Just curious how it adds up for Vera.
Sure. The biggest one is waste removal and skip hire, $260. The rest is in the list at the bottom of the post and I'll upload receipts as I pay each one. I'll keep the page updated.
So sorry you're going through this. Projects like this are what make a place worth living in. Read this on the bus and kept thinking about it all day
Stay strong. Hope you get there. I'll check back for the next update. God bless
Praying for you, Vera. Hope the build day goes well, wish I lived closer. It's not much but it's yours. Thinking of Berlin
