Alcalá de Henares
The Jacaranda wetland has been used as an informal dump for years. This August, 94 neighbors turned up for a first cleanup, filling 107 bags in a single morning. Now we want to restore it for good. We have a plan agreed with the municipal water board, including native species selected by a local botanist. The area floods more each year, and fish have returned for the first time in a decade after our first cleanup. Restoring it will protect homes and bring back shade. All the labor is volunteered. We just need materials. We'll post planting day photos and a count of every sapling planted. Where the $1,550 goes: • Native saplings and stakes: $490 • Tools and protective gear: $240 • Waste removal and skip hire: $590 • Signage and educational materials: $230 I'll pay this kindness forward the moment I'm able to. - Aarón

Updates from Aarón

  1. Update from Alcalá de Henares: we've booked the dates and paid the deposit. We're at 6% of the goal. Thank you for believing in us.

  2. Quick update: $145 raised so far (9%). I met with the nursery and confirmed the amounts. Receipts coming as soon as I have them.

  3. Good news. Because of your gifts ($342 in total) I made the first payment toward waste removal and skip hire. Still a way to go but it feels less lonely.

Wishing you peace. Reading this made my day a bit heavier but I'm glad I did. Put this on a community board in Sacramento this morning.
