Plant 3,800 native trees around the Pioneer hillside in Manila
A neighborhood-led restoration of the Pioneer hillside needs $400 for saplings and equipment.
🇵🇭 Philippines446 views
The Pioneer hillside has been used as an informal dump for years. This August, 76 neighbors turned up for a first cleanup, filling 160 bags in a single morning. Now we want to restore it for good.
We have a plan agreed with the local forestry office, including native species selected by a local botanist.
The area floods more each year, and fish have returned for the first time in a decade after our first cleanup. Restoring it will protect homes and bring back shade.
All the labor is volunteered. We just need materials.
We'll post planting day photos and a count of every sapling planted.
Where the $400 goes:
• Native saplings and stakes: $250
• Signage and educational materials: $45
• Tools and protective gear: $105
With deep gratitude,
Jerome

Thinking of you, Jerome. Everyone deserves a bit of help sometimes. Put this on a community board in Santos this morning.
Rooting for you, Jerome. This could happen to any of us. Don't lose heart. A few weeks ago I was in a hole too and it changed faster than I expected!
Keep going. Reading this made my day a bit heavier but I'm glad I did. Greetings from Fort Collins.
take care. More neighborhoods should do this. It's not much but it's yours
