Plant 3,450 native trees around Pioneer Creek in Madrid
A neighborhood-led restoration of Pioneer Creek needs $1,100 for saplings and equipment.
Anywhere in the world842 views
Pioneer Creek has been used as an informal dump for years. This October, 80 neighbors turned up for a first cleanup, filling 167 bags in a single morning. Now we want to restore it for good.
We have a plan agreed with the municipal water board, including native species selected by a local botanist.
The area floods more each year, and fish have returned for the first time in a decade after our first cleanup. Restoring it will protect homes and bring back shade.
All the labor is volunteered. We just need materials.
Funds buy saplings, gloves, bags, hire of a skip, and signage.
Where the $1,100 goes:
• Native saplings and stakes: $600
• Signage and educational materials: $150
• Waste removal and skip hire: $350
Thank you for reading my story.

Hope things get better soon, Santiago. Reading this made my day a bit heavier but I'm glad I did. After 30 years in nursing I know how hard it's to ask for anything. Love from Nuremberg.
Good luck, Santiago. I've been in a tough spot myself and it does get easier. Thinking of Madrid.
Hope things get better soon. More neighborhoods should do this. I'll check back for the next update. God bless.
Take care, Santiago. Reading this made my day a bit heavier but I'm glad I did. It's not much but it's yours. God bless.
This could happen to any of us. I have a 11 year old who wants to send good wishes too. Take care.
Thinking of you and your family, Santiago. Hope this works out for you. My neighbor in Badagry donated after I showed her your page. Greetings from Badagry.
