Plant 1,300 native trees around the Unity wetland in Lagos
Help us clean and replant the Unity wetland before the October planting window closes.
🇳🇬 Lagos, Lagos, Nigeria1,036 views
The Unity wetland has been used as an informal dump for years. This July, 64 neighbors turned up for a first cleanup, filling 187 bags in a single morning. Now we want to restore it for good.
We have a plan agreed with the city parks department, including native species selected by a local botanist.
The area floods more each year, and fish have returned for the first time in a decade after our first cleanup. Restoring it will protect homes and bring back shade.
All the labor is volunteered. We just need materials.
Funds buy saplings, gloves, bags, hire of a skip, and signage.
Where the $300 goes:
• Waste removal and skip hire: $75
• Tools and protective gear: $35
• Native saplings and stakes: $190
Whatever you can give, even just sharing this page, means a lot.

Thinking of you. This could happen to any of us. I went through something like this 3 years ago and strangers helped me out. Take care
Hope it all works out, Abosede. Reading this made my day a bit heavier but I'm glad I did. Read this on the bus and kept thinking about it all day. Thinking of Lagos.
Take care, Abosede. More neighborhoods should do this. Take care
