Fort Worth
I'm the first person in my family to go to university. I'm studying a pharmacy diploma at the Fort Worth Institute of Technology, and I'm two terms away from graduating. I have worked as a shop assistant to pay my way, but this term my hours were cut and I have an unpaid balance of $2,150. The registrar has told me I can't enroll for the next term until the balance is cleared. I have a top-ten-percent average, and my academic advisor has written in support of my application for a payment plan. Graduating means a stable job and the chance to support my younger siblings. Without enrolling this term I'd lose my place and my scholarship eligibility. I'm not asking for a handout - I want to finish what I started and then help the next student. Everything raised goes to the university's accounts office toward the outstanding balance and the final term's fees. Where the $2,150 goes: • Exam and lab fees: $280 • Outstanding tuition balance: $1,650 • Textbooks and materials: $220 Even a small gift gets used right away and I'll thank you myself.

Updates from Mauricio

  1. 1% there. we've booked the dates and paid the deposit. Thank you. - Mauricio

  2. Quick update: $29 raised so far (1%). I met with the university and confirmed the amounts. Receipts coming as soon as I have them.

  3. Good news. Because of your gifts ($25 in total) the plan for textbooks and materials is now scheduled. Still a way to go but it feels less lonely.

Your post was clear and honest. We had a similar scare last year, I know what it feels like. Greetings from Johannesburg.

    • Sending love. Everyone deserves a bit of help sometimes. My daughter saw me on my phone and now she wants to give her pocket money. Love from Soweto.
