Oky can't leave home - help build a ramp

Oky uses a wheelchair and can't leave the house because of three steps at the door; we need a few hours of carpentry.

Oky has used a wheelchair since 2025, and the house has three steps at the front door and no ramp. At the moment Oky can only go outside when two neighbors are available to lift the chair. The materials (treated timber, screws and non-slip surface) have been donated by a local lumberyard. We need a carpenter or two to measure, cut and build, plus a helper or two. The ramp has to meet the accessibility guideline for gradient, which is why a person with building experience is important. We estimate ten hours of work. Tools are welcome - saws, drills, spirit levels. We'll provide refreshments, and Oky's family will cook lunch for the team. Whatever you can give, even just sharing this page, means a lot.

  • Thanks for sharing this, Slamet. I've been in a tough spot myself and it does get easier. I went through something like this 3 years ago and strangers helped me out.

    • You're not alone, Slamet. I work in healthcare and wanted you to know people are on your side. Read this on the bus and kept thinking about it all day. Greetings from Abuja

      • I've been in a tough spot myself and it does get easier. After 29 years in teaching I know how hard it's to ask for anything. Love from Jakarta Barat.

        • Stay strong, Slamet. Get well soon. Don't be hard on yourself for asking. Take care.
