Let's build a repair café workshop together in New Orleans
A community-led a repair café workshop at the Harmony community hall that will serve 393 neighbors.
🇺🇸 Louisiana, United States1,524 views
For three years the neighborhood has asked for a repair café workshop. This year a group of 11 volunteers, including a retired civil engineer, decided to stop waiting. The council has given permission for the Harmony community hall, but no funding.
We have received donated volunteer hours worth about $1,100, and the remaining cost is $800.
It will serve about 393 people, including elderly neighbors living alone. We'll hold a build day in October and everyone is invited.
We're a small team, and every dollar will be spent in the open - I'll post receipts and progress photos.
All purchases will be made by two volunteers and logged publicly. Surplus funds will go to maintenance.
Where the $800 goes:
• Permits and inspections: $270
• Safety equipment and signage: $145
• Tools hire and delivery: $385
I hope life is good to you.
