Let's build a free library and reading room together in Laredo

Volunteers in Laredo are raising $1,000 for a free library and reading room at Union Park.

For ten years the neighborhood has asked for a free library and reading room. This year a group of 17 volunteers, including a group of teenagers, decided to stop waiting. The council has given permission for Union Park, but no funding. We have received donated soil and plants, and the remaining cost is $1,000. It will serve about 569 people, including children, seniors and people with disabilities. We'll hold a build day in February and everyone is invited. We're a small team, and every dollar will be spent in the open - I'll post receipts and progress photos. All purchases will be made by two volunteers and logged publicly. Surplus funds will go to maintenance.         It's all in the list in the story. permits and inspections is the big one at $330, I'll post a receipt when it's paid. I'll keep the page updated.
