Let's build a free library and reading room together in Guarulhos
A community-led a free library and reading room at Union Primary School that will serve 466 neighbors.
🇧🇷 Guarulhos, São Paulo, Brazil1,922 views
For three years the neighborhood has asked for a free library and reading room. This year a group of 9 volunteers, including a retired civil engineer, decided to stop waiting. The council has given permission for Union Primary School, but no funding.
We have received donated timber, and the remaining cost is $1,100.
It will serve about 466 people, including elderly neighbors living alone. We'll hold a build day in December and everyone is invited.
We're a small team, and every dollar will be spent in the open - I'll post receipts and progress photos.
All purchases will be made by two volunteers and logged publicly. Surplus funds will go to maintenance.
Where the $1,100 goes:
• Materials: $900
• Tools hire and delivery: $110
• Permits and inspections: $90
Ask me anything below before you decide. I'd rather you were sure.
