Let's build a free library and reading room together in Birmingham
A community-led a free library and reading room at the old Cedar bus depot that will serve 196 neighbors.

For five years the neighborhood has asked for a free library and reading room. This year a group of 11 volunteers, including the parish youth group, decided to stop waiting. The council has given permission for the old Cedar bus depot, but no funding.
We have received donated tools, and the remaining cost is $2,650.
It will serve about 196 people, including elderly neighbors living alone. We'll hold a build day in June and everyone is invited.
We're a small team, and every dollar will be spent in the open - I'll post receipts and progress photos.
Funds are spent only on materials, permits and safety equipment; all labor is volunteered.
Where the $2,650 goes:
• Materials: $1,750
• Permits and inspections: $270
• Safety equipment and signage: $230
• Tools hire and delivery: $400

Is there a list of costs somewhere? Just curious how it adds up for Nicholas.
Materials is $1,750 of it. Everything else is listed in the story and nothing outside that list comes out of this page. Fair thing to want to know.
