Laparoscopic cyst removal for Ngozi: covering what insurance won't

A scheduled laparoscopic cyst removal in September is out of reach without help covering $700 of the cost.

In July I was diagnosed with endometriosis requiring surgery. My surgeon at Saint Luke Hospital recommended laparoscopic cyst removal, and I have been placed on the schedule for September. The hospital's financial office gave me a written estimate of $1,400, and after what my employer's plan will pay, I'm still $700 short. Doctors at Saint Luke Hospital told me endometriosis requiring surgery will get worse without laparoscopic cyst removal. I work as a seamstress, and I have saved what I can, but the estimate of $1,400 is far beyond what I've. Until the surgery I can't work full days, and my hours as a seamstress have already been cut. Every week of waiting means more pain and a bigger risk. Rehabilitation is expected to take about 6 weeks. I'll not be able to stand for more than ten minutes during that time, so this has become a financial emergency as well as a medical one. I'll pay the hospital and pharmacy directly and post every receipt in the updates section. Where the $700 goes: • Physiotherapy sessions: $95 • Surgeon and anesthesia fees: $380 • Hospital stay (3 nights): $170 • Post-operative medication: $55 Even a small gift gets used right away and I'll thank you myself.
