When my hours were cut in half in March, I fell 3 months behind on rent. Last Wednesday a court summons for non-payment was taped to my door, and the amount I owe is $700.
My landlord has been understanding for a while, but he has now been clear: if the arrears aren't cleared by June, we must leave.
I have three school-aged children at home. Moving isn't just an expense - it would mean new schools, a new commute and no deposit to put down anywhere else.
I have started working two part-time jobs, and I'm applying for help from local services, but nothing will arrive in time without the rest of the gap covered here.
Funds go to the landlord and nowhere else. Any amount left over after the arrears are cleared will go toward next month's rent.
Where the $700 goes:
• Rent arrears (3 months): $460
• Late fees and court costs: $35
• Utilities in arrears: $30
• First month of rent as a buffer: $175

is there a list of costs somewhere? Just curious how it adds up for Kristine
Everything on the list is an amount I've been quoted or invoiced. rent arrears (3 months) comes first ($460) and I'll update the page as each thing gets paid.
