I'm Kevin, 18, in Year 12. My parents work long hours and didn't go to university, so there's no one at home who can help me understand applications, deadlines or financial aid. I'd like to study economics.
I have a top-of-class average, I volunteer at an after-school program and I have a draft of my personal statement. What I need is someone to read my essays, tell me honestly what's weak, and explain how scholarships work.
I'm looking for an hour a week until August. We can do it by video from anywhere. My mother will be at home during every call, and the school counselor knows about this request.
Thanks for reading. It took me a long time to ask.
Please ask me anything in the questions section. I'll answer honestly and quickly.

Study hard! I went through something like this 3 years ago and strangers helped me out. All the best.
I've been in a tough spot myself and it does get easier. My daughter saw me on my phone and now she wants to give her pocket money. All the best.
Shared this with my family. Thinking of Embakasi.
thinking of you and your family. Your post was clear and honest. My late mom used to say help given quietly counts double. Take care.

Thinking of you and your family. Good luck with the exams, you've got this. My mother had a similar thing happen so this one hit home. Take care.

Rooting for you, Kevin. As a teacher I love seeing someone work this hard to learn.

You're not alone. Your post was clear and honest. After 13 years in public service I know how hard it's to ask for anything.

It takes guts to ask. Well done. Thinking of Embakasi.
Stay strong. I've been in a tough spot myself and it does get easier. Read this on the bus and kept thinking about it all day. Love from Lafayette.
