Keep a roof over Santiago's head in Edinburgh

A long illness left Santiago short on rent for 4 months; help us stay in our home.

When my hours were cut in half in August, I fell 4 months behind on rent. Last Tuesday a court summons for non-payment was taped to my door, and the amount I owe is $3,100. My landlord has been understanding for a while, but he has now been clear: if the arrears aren't cleared by December, we must leave. I have two young children at home. Moving isn't just an expense - it would mean new schools, a new commute and no deposit to put down anywhere else. I have started working evenings as a cleaner, and I'm applying for help from local services, but nothing will arrive in time without the rest of the gap covered here. Funds go to the landlord and nowhere else. Any amount left over after the arrears are cleared will go toward next month's rent. Where the $3,100 goes: • Rent arrears (4 months): $2,250 • Late fees and court costs: $165 • Utilities in arrears: $115 • First month of rent as a buffer: $570 You're what makes this possible, and I'll never forget it. - Santiago

Stay strong. Shared this with my family. After 10 years in construction I know how hard it's to ask for anything.
