Keep a roof over Mwangi's head in Nairobi
After a delayed insurance payout, Mwangi is 2 months behind on rent and has a 10-day notice to quit from the landlord.

After a sudden layoff at the textile factory, I fell 2 months behind on rent. Last Tuesday a 10-day notice to quit was taped to my door, and the amount I owe is $450.
My landlord has been understanding for a while, but he has now been clear: if the arrears aren't cleared by April, we must leave.
I have three school-aged children at home. Moving isn't just an expense - it would mean new schools, a new commute and no deposit to put down anywhere else.
I have started working night deliveries, and I'm applying for help from local services, but nothing will arrive in time without the rest of the gap covered here.
Funds go to the landlord and nowhere else. Any amount left over after the arrears are cleared will go toward next month's rent.
Where the $450 goes:
• Utilities in arrears: $20
• Rent arrears (2 months): $270
• First month of rent as a buffer: $160
I never thought I'd be the one asking, and I'm grateful for every bit of support.

Take care, Mwangi. Looking forward to the next update. My husband and I read this together. Take care
Sending strength. This could happen to any of us. Put this on a community board in Guadalajara this morning. Thinking of Nairobi.
