Keep a roof over Jagath's head in Colombo
A sudden layoff left Jagath short on rent for 4 months; help us stay in our home.

Following a long illness in the family, I fell 4 months behind on rent. Last Friday a court summons for non-payment was taped to my door, and the amount I owe is $500.
My landlord has been understanding for a while, but he has now been clear: if the arrears aren't cleared by November, we must leave.
I have a teenager still in school at home. Moving isn't just an expense - it would mean new schools, a new commute and no deposit to put down anywhere else.
I have started working extra hours at a market stall, and I'm applying for help from local services, but nothing will arrive in time without the rest of the gap covered here.
The money will be paid directly to the landlord and I'll upload the receipt once it's done.
Where the $500 goes:
• First month of rent as a buffer: $160
• Rent arrears (4 months): $310
• Utilities in arrears: $30

is there anything that isn't money that would help Jagath?
Thank you. If you're in Colombo I'll say if something practical comes up. For now sharing this is great. Let me know if you want more detail.
Sending good thoughts, Jagath. Reading this made my day a bit heavier but I'm glad I did. God bless
So sorry you're going through this, Jagath. This could happen to any of us. Our whole street has been following this since the weekend. All the best.
