In November I was diagnosed with severe cataracts in both eyes. My surgeon at Leeds Community Hospital recommended palate reconstruction surgery, and I have been placed on the schedule for February. The hospital's financial office gave me a written estimate of $7,500, and after what the government subsidy will pay, I'm still $5,300 short. Doctors at Leeds Community Hospital told me severe cataracts in both eyes will get worse without palate reconstruction surgery. I work as a taxi driver, and I have saved what I can, but the estimate of $7,500 is far beyond what I've. Until the surgery I can't work full days, and my hours as a taxi driver have already been cut. Every week of waiting means more pain and a bigger risk. The recovery period is expected to take about 12 weeks. I'll not be able to walk without help during that time, so this has become a financial emergency as well as a medical one. The money goes straight to the treatment bills, and I'll share the invoices as they're paid so you can see exactly what your gift did. Where the $5,300 goes: • Surgeon and anesthesia fees: $2,700 • Post-operative medication: $180 • Physiotherapy sessions: $620 • Hospital stay (4 nights): $1,800 Thank you for reading my story. - Josephine

  • You're not alone. I hope things turn around soon. We lost years of savings to something like this so I get it. Greetings from Chennai!
