I'm a single mother of three living in Mbarara. During the last storm water started coming through the ceiling in 2 places, and the bathroom is no longer usable. A roofer quoted $540, which isn't something I can pay. The good news: a local hardware store has donated the corrugated iron sheets and timber. What I don't have is people to do the work. I'm looking for a small crew who can help over a weekend. Experience helps, but it isn't essential - I'll have a licensed roofer supervising for safety. All you need is sturdy shoes, gloves and a willingness to work. I'll provide lunch, water and lots of thanks. The work will be done on the ground and roof with proper harnesses. If you can only help for a few hours, that's welcome too. Thanks for being kind about this.

  • So sorry you're going through this, Wekesa. A secure home matters so much. Hope you're settled soon. Wish I lived closer to Pokhara so I could bring a meal.

    • Hope it all works out. I hope your landlord gives you a bit more time while this comes together. Thinking of Mbarara

      • Thinking of you. Reading this made my day a bit heavier but I'm glad I did. Our whole street has been following this since the weekend. Love from New Delhi.

        • This could happen to any of us. After 27 years in social work I know how hard it's to ask for anything. Take care.

          • Thinking of you, Wekesa. Hope this works out for you. The breakdown of costs made it easy to trust. All the best
